Bruce Springsteen

January 14, 2014. It's officially here according to brucespringsteen.net! Bruce Springsteen released a new album today, titled High Hopes, on January 14th. The album is available for order now at smarturl.it/highhopes, and the music video for the title track can be seen now at brucespringsteen.net.

High Hopes finds Bruce in a number of different musical settings, and includes the members of the E Street Band as well as guitarist Tom Morello and many additional players. Recorded in New Jersey, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Australia and New York City, High Hopes marks Bruce’s 18th studio album and includes his own liner notes that detail the album’s evolution, viewable now at brucespringsteen.net.

Morello joined Bruce and the E Street Band on tour in Australia in March 2013 (sitting in for Steve Van Zandt), and became, as Bruce says, “my muse, pushing the rest of this project to another level.”  Besides his guitar playing on the album, Morello also duets with Bruce on ”The Ghost of Tom Joad.”  Clarence Clemons, who passed away in 2011, and Danny Federici, who passed away in 2008, also appear on several songs of what Springsteen calls “some of our best unreleased material from the past decade.”

January 12, 2014 The 71st Annual Golden Globe® Awards took place this Sunday evening LIVE coast-to-coast on NBC from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Co-hosts of the awards of who's who in Hollywood and music industry were the congenial and hilarious veteran SNL duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Bono and The Edge of U2 were well deserved honorees for award of best ORIGINAL SONG "Ordinary Love" by U2 and Danger Mouse (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom).  The movie, the music and the award were all "very personal" as Bono spoke to the audience.

The line up of nominees for the coveted ORIGINAL SONG award was fiercely competitive with top shelf musicians in the industry - Nominees: Atlas by Coldplay (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire); Let It Go by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen); Ordinary Love by U2 and Danger Mouse (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom); Please Mr. Kennedy by Ed Rush, George Cromarty, T Bone Burnett, Justin Timberlake, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (Inside Llewyn Davis); Sweeter Than Fiction by Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff (One Chance).

Numerous trophies were bestowed for the TELEVISION DRAMA SERIES "Breaking Bad" including best ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES Bryan Cranston.  Michael Douglas received Best ACTOR IN A DRAMA OR MINI SERIES "Behind the Candlelabra" chronicling the life of effervescent and talented pianist Liberace.

There were "what in the heck??" moments where audience members were scratching their heads. Diane Keaton accepted Cecil B. DeMille Award for Woody Allen, rambled and then began to sing a childhood song "Make new friends...". Jacqueline Bisset winner of best SUPPORTING ACTRESS for (Dancing on the Edge as Lady Livinia Cremone) was lost in a sea of nonsensical jumble of words as she received her Golden Globe. These teachable moments garnered heightened attention to the evening.

One of the most intriguing award winners was Alex Ebert (All Is Lost) for BEST SCORE.  Cate Blanchett, who ironically was the most eloquent and understandable, won best ACTRESS IN A DRAMA (Blue Jasmine as Jasmine Francis) and joked with the audience "I had a few vodkas under my belt." Perhaps the red carpet pre-award partying contributed to the funkiness of the speeches!
