The original "fun girl" stellar performer and musical chameleon Cyndi Lauper and New Orleans funk and blues legend Dr. John bring their fall co-headlining tour, "Cyndi Lauper & Dr. John: From Memphis to Mardi Gras."
Lauper's latest album, 2010's Grammy-nominated Memphis Blues, was a celebration of the blues, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Blues Albums Chart and held the top spot for 14 weeks. Lauper won over audiences on the road with her "Memphis Blues" live show which includes several of the legendary musicians featured on the album including Steve Potts on drums, Archie "Hubbie" Turner on keys, Michael Toles on guitar and, on select dates, the legendary Charlie Musselwhite on harmonica.
The New York Post raved, "She belted blues classics like she was born on the Delta rather than in Queens. With grit in her voice and swagger in her stage presence… Like her new CD, Lauper's set never faltered and she didn't lack for classic material. She was killer." Lauper's Memphis Blues live concert DVD will be released this fall.
Universally celebrated as the musical embodiment of New Orleans, Dr. John received the ultimate musical honor this March when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, leading a class with Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Darlene Love, Leon Russell and Tom Waits. His latest album, 2010's Tribal, garnered worldwide critical praise with the Guardian calling the album, "A heartening return to form." A leading global ambassador for the rich musical heritage of New Orleans, John has supported the area with fund-raising concerts and donations from his recordings.
