Madina Lake New Video and First Single Off New Album "World War III" Due out September 13 on Razor & Tie - Preorder Underway!
After a tumultuous year, Chicago-based alternative rock group MADINA LAKE are gearing up for their third album, WORLD WAR III, due out September 13 on Razor & Tie. The album’s release is preceded by the single “Hey Superstar” and video which premieres today (August 30) via the Guitar World magazine site and: GuitarWorld.com and here at VEVO. The performance-based clip cleverly juxtaposes the song’s ethereal textures which bleed into propulsive guitars before the anthemic hook takes hold. MADINA LAKE teamed with director Andrew Bennett for the video which depicts the group’s DIY attitude and the main concept running throughout WORLD WAR III: survival and triumph through the unexpected curve balls of life.

Given the events of the last year, MADINA LAKE--twin brothers NATHAN (Vocals) and MATTHEW LEONE (Bass, Vocals), MATEO CAMARGO (Guitar, Programming), and DANIEL TORELLI (Drums)--have gone through a war and came out fighting on the other side, invigorated, the group is now up for any challenge. In June of last year, bassist MATTHEW LEONE was severely beaten when he attempted to intervene in a domestic violence incident and stop a man beating his wife. Even though the man was twice his size, MATTHEW immediately intervened and subdued the attacker, but as he waited for police to arrive the man turned on him and beat him severely before leaving MATTHEW unconscious on the street. In critical condition, his injuries included a fractured skull, broken jaw and a brain so swollen the doctor had to remove one-third of his skull while waiting for the swelling in his brain to go down. The attack created an outcry and groundswell of support from national and local musicians--including fellow Chicagoan Billy Corgan--who came together to raise funds for MATTHEW’s hospital bills as his medical insurance had lapsed. On July 27, 2010 The Smashing Pumpkins performed a benefit show for MATTHEW at The Metro in Chicago which raised over $80,000. The group forged a fast friendship with the iconic rocker and Billy teamed up with the band in the studio for WORLD WAR III.
“Billy surpassed our expectations of what kind of artist and man he is,” explains MATTHEW. “We went to Sedona for a retreat while Billy was working on new music for The Smashing Pumpkins; we didn’t think we’d end up actually working together,” he adds. “He took us hiking through one of the desert vortexes, which are power zones…We had one of the most rewarding philosophical conversations about life and music. On day six, he said, let’s work on a song, and that’s where ‘Imagineer’ was first born. His influence on the track is undeniable.” Other WORLD WAR III highlights include the haunting and hypnotic “The Great Divide,” “We Got This” which is NATHAN’s uplifting tribute to MATTHEW, and “Howdy Neighbor” where NATHAN’s unabashed fury is realized in an unadulterated open-letter to MATTHEW’s assailant.
2011 sees the group coming full circle in multiple ways with a full tour in the works; dates are spaced out for the time being to give MATTHEW rest in between shows (see dates below, more to follow) and next month, MATTHEW’s attacker will have his final sentencing hearing in Chicago on September 6. “You can survive anything,” NATHAN says. “Life throws things at you that you can’t fathom surviving, but you can, you must. If someone feels that after listening to World War III, we’ve done our job.”
